「One」 tries to immerse the viewer in fantasy through animation. The audience is presented with a small dish that contains a little spilled ink - what happens inside and around this drop of pigment? If you look close enough, you can see that the ink is listening! The viewer assumes the role of a god; tapping, prodding, covering, blowing on and speaking to the ink induces complex and intricate responses. The microcosm that evolves from doodling both reflects and subverts the natural systems in which we live. The shapes that emerge are similar to shapes in plants, animals, and bacteria, but they avoid representation-they contest the work of biologists like Antonie van LeeuwenHoek and Ernst Haeckel This art installation tries to communicate the way we struggle with the natural world, trying to imagine something better and eventually conceding to failure. Our fate is a cause and effect of today's design environment. We create within in a vast network of programmers, researchers, theorists and artists who craft tools as indispensable structures for production. Working with graphics and rendering technologies provides immediate access to a communally developed visual language and encourages us to act as members of this community. 작품「One」은 아름다운 3d 애니메이션 영상을 통해 사람과 인공적 환경의 커뮤니케이션을 보여주는 인터렉티브 아트 인스톨레이션이다. 관람자는 작은 접시 위에 놓여져 있는 미세한 점을 자세히 관찰하면서 말을 걸고, 숨을 불어 넣고, 또 손짓을 함으로써 그와 소통하며 인공생명의 아름다움과 자연과 인간 사이의 커뮤니케이션을 지켜볼 수 있다. 어찌 보면 이 작품에서 관람자는 신과도 같은 존재로써 이 작고 미세한 점에 영향력을 행사하는 것과 같다. 자연계의 성장과 변화가 바로 우리의 작은 손짓에서 비롯됨을 보여주는 것이다. 물론 작은 점의 반응을 우리 눈으로 직접 볼 수 없지만, 점의 변화를 확대하여 보여주는 눈 앞의 스크린을 통해서 그 현상을 관찰할 수 있다. 대자연의 원인과 결과의 섭리가 서로 아름답게 어우러지고 또 긴밀하게 연결되어 있음을 보여주는 것이다. 「One」은 인터렉션 디자이너, 생물학자, 프로그래머, 그리고 애니메이터가 각자의 역할을 충분히 수행하고 또 협력하여서 만들어낸 작품인 만큼, 이 작품은 과학적이면서도 예술적으로 아름답게 우리의 자연 현상을 그려내고 있다. 작은 동물, 식물, 그리고 미생물의 형태를 혼합하여 놓은 창조적인 이 작은 세포 영상이미지는 유명한 생물학자 Antonie van LeeuwenHoek 와 Ernst Haeckel 의 연구에서부터 영감을 받아 제작되었다.
